The Challenge:Monitoring 51,000+ devices across a complex estate
Terminal 2 presented significant scale and integration complexity.
With over 51,000 devices needing real-time monitoring, Heathrow required a smart system that could automate testing, fault reporting, and provide actionable insights across various systems—lighting, safety, and infrastructure.
Beckhoff PC based DALI, KNX and BMS Integration by IAconnects
IAconnects designed, supplied, and commissioned a fully integrated system using DALI and KNX technologies, supported by custom software and robust PLC-based infrastructure.
Key features included:
- 52 PLC-based control panels across the terminal
- 45,000 DALI lighting fittings and 6,000 KNX devices
- Custom graphical head-end interface linked to Honeywell EBI control server
- Real-time monitoring of device status, faults, and communication loss
- Daily automated reports issued to Heathrow’s maintenance teams
- MQTT and BACnet messaging infrastructure processing over 1 million messages per day
All design layouts, software development, testing, and commissioning were completed by IAconnects, ensuring seamless handover to HETCo and Heathrow Airport.
